Born and raised in Clayton County, Georgia, State Representative Yasmin Neal has led a life of public service from being a Police Detective, Sheriff’s Investigator, Dept of Driver Services, and more. Yasmin is the Chair of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation and was the Chair of the Clayton County Democratic Party. Since starting at the age of 16 working campaigns, to being Press Secretary of Young Democrats of GA, interning at the Capitol at the age of 19 with the Lawmakers TV show with Georgia Public Broadcasting; Yasmin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Capitol as she continues to work across the aisle to get things done. This includes getting bills passed and/or signed by the Governor.
Yasmin is the Chair of the Clayton County Legislative Delegation.
As of July 2021, Governor Brian Kemp signed Rep. Neal’s Bill, Bill 236 which protects victims & domestic violence victims; into law in the state of GA. Yasmin had her Mental Health legislation, HB 571, included in the Mental Health Omnibus bill that was signed by the Governor in 2022. The Governor also signed HB404, Tenants rights bill which included her bill, House Bill 304 that protects Georgia renters during the 2023-2024 session. The Governor also signed two additional local bills which adds huge housing protections to her citizens. Yasmin has negotiated local funding for her county and thousands and thousands of dollars for her local 501c3 charities.
Yasmin has also worked closely with U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff who has recently dropped their bill Senate Bill 4944, in the United States Senate to change the underwriting process to allow United States citizens a higher chance of obtaining a mortgage loan by making it mandatory for the credit bureaus to include positive rental payments into citizens credit histories,The bill is currently pending in the United States Senate.
Yasmin’s bills have gone viral and resulted in her political worked being covered by some of the largest media outlets in the work to include The Rachel Maddow Show, CNN, Esquire, BET, Telemundo, NPR, Associated Press and the list of online and print goes on. Her legislative work has also been studied by countless collegiate entities to include Yasmin’s legislative work being included and explored in a collegiate textbook. The textbook entitled : Distinct Identities: Minority Women in U.S. Politics and has been the topic of various college lectures and dissertations on her work in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Yasmin has a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and an MBA in Global Management. Additionally, Yasmin attended the Women’s Campaign School at Yale Law to include a number of other leadership programs at the likes of University of Georgia and Georgia Tech to name a few, She has lectured on the subjects of politics/law/criminal justice/film at K-12 schools, top colleges and universities; to include Morehouse, Spelman, Yale University-lecturing at the Georgia State Bar and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Yasmins list of philanthropy and charity work is exhaustive as she has led a full life of service outside of the Capitol. Additionally, she sits on the following committees: Public Safety & Homeland Security, Judiciary Non-Civil (Sets Criminal Law), Juvenile Justice, Economic Development & Tourism, House Study Committee on Law Enforcement Salaries. Additional boards she is on: Appointed to State Commission on Civics Education, Board Member at Clayton State University, Board Member at Southern Regional Hospital
Outside of spending her days in the community at food drives, churches, card games with the seniors and more, she has worked tirelessly to bring housing to the county to include over 17 housing developments being built presently and more pending. In her free time, Yasmin explores the arts as an award-winning Film Director/Writer/Producer. Her film projects touch on everything to include social justice issues; which as a result of her excellence, her work goes viral and has been viewed by millions. Whether its winning awards for her community service or simply doing the work that goes unseen, Yasmin is the true definition of service based off of a life dedicated to the people.
